I can’t think of a better topic to write about to begin my blog journey… why did I become a stylist?
I've always had a curious eye for style and have always enjoyed creating new looks from my existing wardrobe. Still today, I love wearing a new look I’ve put together for the first time. Many years ago, in my working life as a Business Consultant, one of my clients owned a boutique. Not only did we establish a really enjoyable business relationship we also began a friendship that lasted years. Together we would hold ‘Afternoons with Tracey’ where I’d invite a group of fun-loving girlfriends to the boutique, we’d enjoy a glass of bubbles and ‘play’ with the clothes. We’d try new looks, experiment with new pieces and, above all, enjoy each other’s suggestions and feedback. Inevitably we’d all head home with a new outfit (what a shame). Those afternoons allowed me to experiment and gave me confidence in knowing how to create looks.
For me, style comes from within, feeling good about yourself brings confidence and the more confidence you have the more you naturally express who you are through your own style. With increased confidence, you’ll find you’ll have increased productivity, efficiency, and performance. As well as affecting the way you feel, whether you like it or not, your clothes and presentation also communicate volumes about you as a person!
I know that when I put an outfit together that I really like and feel good in, my achievement levels grow, my confidence grows, and I’m less likely to second guess myself. Whilst I can only speak for the way outfits make me feel, I’ve noticed over the years that when discussing this with others they have a curiosity about it and I find it really interesting unpacking others thoughts on their particular style, or - in their own words - ‘lack of style’.
Whilst these are my thoughts and it is something I feel quite strongly about, it is not for everyone and I totally understand that, my role as a stylist is not to ‘convert’ anyone into feeling like they need to change, more to challenge their thinking and practises should they have the curiosity for it.
If you have a curiosity about style, I’d love for you to connect with me, I can’t wait to help you find a personal style that fits your personality.
